Your Rights as a Patient

MISH Hospital is committed to honoring and protecting the rights of every patient. We believe that understanding your rights empowers you to make informed decisions about your healthcare and fosters a collaborative relationship between you and your care team.

  • Informed Consent — You have the right to receive complete information about your diagnosis, proposed treatments, potential risks, and alternative options before consenting to any procedure.
  • Privacy and Confidentiality — You have the right to have your personal health information kept confidential and protected in accordance with HIPAA and applicable state laws.
  • Dignified and Respectful Treatment — You have the right to receive care in a safe environment, free from discrimination, abuse, neglect, or harassment, regardless of your background.
  • Access to Medical Records — You have the right to review and obtain copies of your medical records and to request amendments if you believe the information is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Right to Refuse Treatment — You have the right to refuse any treatment or procedure, and to be informed of the medical consequences of that decision.
  • Pain Management — You have the right to appropriate assessment and management of pain throughout your care.
  • Complaint Resolution — You have the right to voice concerns or file complaints without fear of retaliation, and to have those concerns addressed in a timely manner.

Patient Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and complete information about your health history, current medications, allergies, and any changes in your condition.
  • Ask questions when you do not understand your diagnosis, treatment plan, or any instructions provided by your care team.
  • Follow the treatment plan agreed upon with your healthcare providers, including prescribed medications, dietary guidelines, and follow-up appointments.
  • Treat all hospital staff, other patients, and visitors with courtesy and respect.
  • Comply with hospital rules and safety regulations, including visitor policies, smoking restrictions, and noise guidelines.
  • Provide a responsible adult to transport you home after procedures requiring anesthesia or sedation.
  • Promptly meet financial obligations associated with your care, and communicate with our billing department if you have questions or need assistance.

Visitation Rights

MISH Hospital supports your right to have visitors during your stay. You have the right to designate visitors regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability. You may designate a support person to be present during your care and restrict or revoke visitation at any time.

Non-Discrimination Policy

MISH Hospital complies with applicable Federal civil rights laws and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex. We provide free aids and services to people with disabilities and free language services to people whose primary language is not English.

Physician Coverage Disclosure

MISH Hospital does not have a physician on-site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. An on-call physician is available and can respond within 30 minutes when needed. If you experience a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.
